O Vrachos Restaurant (O βράχος) at Kalamaki

After the summer break, we start our walks again. We finished with a full moon and start again with a new full moon.
The spectacle of the full moon will, on 7th of September, be particularly interesting and impressive as it will correspond with a total eclipse of the moon.
During the event, the moon will take on a deep red hue due to refraction in the Earth's atmosphere, creating the so-called Blood Moon.
This time, Greece is among the countries ideally placed to admire the phenomenon.
What makes this event even more impressive is the fact that this lunar eclipse coincides with the moment when the moon is at its closest point to the earth. As a result, the moon will appear larger and brighter than usual, even creating a super moon eclipse.
It will certainly be a spectacle not to be missed.
We start at 6 pm at the  O Vrachos Restaurant (O βράχος)where we'll have dinner after the walk.
Menu price: 15€ per person without drinks.
The first part is uphill, then we cross the main road and continue downhill.
After about another 2 km, we'll be able to watch the moonrise.
The last 2 km we'll walk in the moonlight, enjoying the magnificent view of the sea and the city lights of Kalamata and the Mani Island.
We cross the main road again and then turn on an unpaved road to the O Vrachos Restaurant (O βράχος).
Registration for the dinner closed!

 The chronicle of today
Despite thick clouds and a really unclear weather forecast, 31 freewalkers gathered at the parking lot of Vrachos tavern.
The walk was very pleasant with a beautiful view and a stunning lightgame over the sea.
And then, shortly before the end of the hike, the moon finally appeared as a thin, pink crescent. So everything went smoothly.
Some people arrived directly for diner and so, all together, 39 persons enjoyed the tasteful diner in the tavern.
Everything was prepared well in the restaurant; drinks, appetizers, and souvlaki were served.  Durung the diner the Freewalkers witnessed the exceptional lunar spectacle.
A beautiful first hike after the summer break.
